Purchased this bra to wear with a specific off-the-shoulder dress. Wears perfectly. The stay-put clear rubber can be a little uncomfortable at times, but the bra really does stay put. In this case, it's beauty before pain. But I love this bra. Makes the chest look oh so sexy!

Party Extremist

Is there an "Anonymous" group for people who love planning parties? I have to admit that planning a party sure can be hectic, but my favorite part is decorating. I like to be creative when it comes to theme parties. I've had my share of party planning. I've planned parties at hotels, beach parks & backyards. My latest was the Surprise Double Baby Shower for my niece & my goddaughter. It was kind of tricky because one is expecting a boy and one is expecting a girl. Most people will go with the Blue for Boy and Pink for Girl themes, but not these two mothers. Oh no, I had to make it a real treat for them.

My goddaughter loves 'Winnie the Pooh', so naturally, her theme was much easier. Only, she hates pink. Ha, go figure. My niece was not specific on her preference, but there were some ideas thrown out like 'Rock Band' (baby-daddy's choice) or 'Fokai' (a local brand). Then I recalled the clothing that her elder son is always wearing 'Quiksilver'. Once the theme was decided, lightbulbs started going off.

The plan was that I would take care of my goddaughter's background & table setup and my nieces' would be taken care of by her godmother. This arrangement made it so much easier to concentrate on completing the menu and the one theme. Well, there was a family emergency in my nieces' godmother's family so she had asked me to take care of both girls' setups. I was freaked, but then I took it as a small hiccup. I already knew the theme, I just had to get funding & the materials.

Someone had already made the pamper cake, but I needed to personalize it to follow the girls' themes. I disassembled part of the pamper cake to make it work. Once I got through the pamper cakes, the money boxes (for monetary gifts) were next. I wanted to give my goddaughter a 'Hunny Pot', just like Pooh has. I had made one for my nephew's first birthday about five years ago, and finding the core was harder this time, but I called around and found something that worked. The 'Quiksilver' theme was tricky, but I ended up turning the logo into a 3D money box.

As you can see, it all turned out quite nice. The girls loved it and that's what made all the hardwork, late nights, blood & sweat worth it.

My Busy Child

When does too much, really become 'too much'? As I was growing up, I remember participating in all sorts of school activities. Now a mother of three, I fear that perhaps, I may be killing my children (with activities). I know my mom would say "it's good for them", "keep them busy so they don't get lazy". I get it...

When my son was 5 yrs old, I signed him up for soccer. He took to it like a bird with wings. He excelled, and he had so much energy to burn. When my eldest daughter was old enough, we signed her up too. She was so petite and so cute, but she didn't really take to it as well as her brother, so she stopped playing. As my sons' grades began to fall, extracurricular privileges were taken away. That was my mistake, because that's when the laziness started to kick in. My daughter wanted to try cultural dance and so my mom decided to sign her up for it. I was worried about conflicting schedules and transportation for practices, but my mom was insistent and said she would be the one transporting her & her cousins. Okay, that really helped me.

Youth soccer had two seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring. So, all three of my kiddies decide they want to sign up again for soccer. Without hesitation, they were all registered and ready to go. My deal is, I'm up for supporting my kiddies with their activities as long as grades are not affected and they see it through to the end. I'm sure that's what every parent wants to do for their children, right? So with all three in it for the season, we were at the field, on game days, in the early morning, mid-day & late afternoon. Some days, my elder daughter had a cultural event and we were rushing to or from a game. It was crazy.

One year, she decided she wanted to join a beauty pageant for one of the local Filipino communities. That was a crazy 5-month activity. We sold tickets, held a car wash, did a talent show, participated in a cultural competition. It was too much (for me)... but I could see the joy in her face, the friends she made, the experiences she gained. It was all worth it when she wore her third runner-up crown proudly during the annual "Santacruzan" (or parade).

My son showed interest in cultural dancing so he tried it out and I guess he enjoyed it because he's still participating. My baby girl agreed to try out basketball. The program is in the summer, so it works out great! She liked it and made some friends.

It sometimes seems so overwhelming for me and I worry that if, it's too much for me, is it too much for them? I ask if they're sure they can handle the multiple activities & they assure me that they can handle it. I let them know immediately, that if, at any time, they feel it's too much, they can let me know and I will "rescue them". So now all my kiddies are participating in some kind of activity. It will get hectic again and I know...or hope, I can still handle it all.

All in all, when I do become a grandmother (hopefully many years from now), I want my children to do the same for their children as I have done for them. It's something my mom did for me and I did always enjoy looking down or out at the audience to see her smiling back at me with pride & joy.

The Neverending Weekend

I drive 13 miles every day to work and another 13 miles back home. It probably doesn't seem that long to someone living in the U.S. mainland, but for someone from Guam, it sure is a long drive. It's the traffic that really makes it long. There are thousands of cars on the one highway (if you can even call it that) "Marine Corps Drive", every morning and evening. Sometimes I stay back at the office in hopes that the traffic would die down and the drive home would be somewhat tolerable. Other than the traffic, the days at work can be stressful at times, but we also have some slow days that make the day drag on longer. I'm sure you can imagine how that goes.

So here comes Friday and although it seems that I'm going to get a chance to take a break, it's not always the case. Sure, I get to sleep in that extra hour or two, but once the banks open, it's back to work again. Work for the family. I try to pay whatever bills I can via online banking, but there are those companies that refuse to grow with technology. So those are the ones where we have to stand in line to make our payments. I also try to schedule appointments on the weekends (dental, medical, vet visits, etc.). It's sometimes hard to get away during the work week, not to mention all the leave hours that have been used on other . And of course, let's not forget the kiddies activities. Oh Yes, there's lots of that (I'll blog more on that subject later).

There's CCD (Church Classes), Soccer, Basketball, Cultural Dancing, friends' birthdays, movie plans, etc. Of course, I still have to try to fit in some laundry time or even try to visit family. Sometimes my sister takes these last minute trips to the beach, for a barbecue, and they call to invite us. No hesitation from my kiddies, of course. They love the beach & swimming. My son, I think he was born to be a fisherman. No kidding there. He can take a small piece of hotdog (for bait), a farely long enough fishing line, a tiny hook, maybe a long stick/twig (makeshift rod) and actually catch fish...it's amazing to me.

Sorry, I got off the subject for a moment...

This weekend is no different. It starts off tonight actually. My husband has his first basketball practice for this league that his work is participating. Tomorrow, two of my kiddies have a dental appointment that will take a little over an hour. Then I have a funeral to attend. My grandfathers' brother had recently passed and he was the last of their generation from my mom's side of the family (I'm going to blog more on this subject later, as well). I'm hoping we can make it before the mass because we should be out of the dental clinic around 10:30 AM but the mass might start at 12:00 PM, but it's in Agat. That's about 24 miles from the dental clinic. I'm also hoping to have laundry taken care of on Saturday night so Sunday can be a relaxing day. Oops, my husband just called and began talking about trimming the yard... so there goes our Sunday. I also try to make it a point to clean the car inside and out on Sunday mornings, but it's not always possible...

Okay this blog is starting to be Neverending itself so let me finish of by saying... It all really is Neverending, isn't it? But I do it for the love of my family... can you blame me?
